Langkawi, Malaysia
Langkawi is an island off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia, and also a popular destination among tourist — whether local or foreigners. This article is specifically focused on Pantai Cenang, a beach that is stretched about 2 kilometers long and is located on the western shoreline of Langkawi.
If you don’t already know, Langkawi itself is a duty free island and best of all, you ought to get cheap beers to chill by the beach! Ideally, 3 nights in Langkawi may just be ideal if you are just laying back by Pantai Cenang!
ITS ALL ABOUT THE BEACHES
Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach)
I’d recommend visiting the Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach) if you intend to visit beaches in Langkawi. What I find best about this beach is the location where it is located in between Langkawi International Airport and the Zon Duty Free store.
Try imagining that you couldn’t wait any longer to dip yourself in the beach after your hectic working days; thinking that a paradise like this is not situated too far away from the airport! Also, there are several convenient stores available to grab some of your good cheap beers!
I was staying in a chalet at Malibest Resort, where you literally could roll out from your room to the sands. Although the room is not spotlessly cleaned (particularly the toilet); but heck, I am here for the beaches!
Overall, my visit to Cenang Beach was satisfactory to good and at least I remember that they were not overly crowded.
The Zon Duty Free Zone
Here is where you could really spend your money for cheap beers and whiskies. For instance, we gotten a tall can of Carlsberg (500ml) for RM3.10! CHEAP!!
If you are in Langkawi for at least 48 hours, you could also bring on-board (carry into the cabin) of 1 litre of whiskey/pax if you are travelling domestically from Langkawi. That was something new to me because duty free items will normally be properly sealed (just like the items from duty free store in airports) before bringing them on-board. However, you could do this differently (without getting it sealed) if you are buying them from the Zon Duty Free store!
*Although beers are cheap here, but please drink responsibly!
OTHER OPTIONAL PLACES WORTH VISITING
Langkawi Sky Bridge
One of its major attraction in Langkawi is the Langkawi Sky Bridge where it’ll be ideal for a family day out and it’ll be good if you could bring your children along! Overall, it was fun but I don’t think that I’ll re-visit anytime soon.
The experience was pleasant and it was worthwhile as the basic admission ticket do include complimentary entrance to SkyDome, SkyRex, and 3D Art. If you intend to visit the Sky Bridge, do ensure that your ticket include that admission as well!
You may visit Langkawi Sky Bridge – Website for more information and its fares.
Underwater World Langkawi
I have not been to the Underwater World in Langkawi, but at least it gives an alternate option to bringing your children there for some underwater experience!
You may visit Underwater World – Website for more information on your tickets and visit.
Yuan Spa
Visiting Yuan Spa was indeed a pleasure experience while its service were superb. Prices were standard to expensive and I wouldn’t be surprised either as good/better massage parlours tend to be a little bit more expensive. Here in Yuan Spa, I have selected the Malay Traditional Massage of which is an hour and 30 minutes for RM128 and it was satisfactory as well.
Yuan Spa is located about 10 minutes away from the Malibest Resort and you would probably need to grab a Grab service or alternatively, you could request for a pick-up (subject to availability)!
FOOD AND DRINKS YOU’D LIKE TO TRY
Local Stalls
Unfortunately it wasn’t a food trip during my visit in Langkawi.
However, I do find that by taking a stroll along Jalan Pantai Cenang that is in parallel to Pantai Cenang, you could find a variety of local stalls to dine in/take-away. I do find several stalls where I came across really good Malay food/dishes but unfortunately, I could not locate them online!
RECOMMENDED MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION
By Foot
Getting around Pantai Cenang is relatively easy and it would be a good stroll to take, especially in the morning!
By Ride Hailing Services (eg. Grab)
Taking ride hailing services like Grab in Langkawi is one of the best option to get around if you ain’t doing it by foot. Further, Grab rides are reasonable and you don’t have to wait very long for the driver to accept your pick-up request.
